はっきりとしないことを表現したいときに使える表現

■時間 + ish
時間に~ishをつけることで「～時くらい」を表現することができる
A: What time do you want to meet up tomorrow?
B: Well… 12ish?
A: Sounds good!
Let’s meet at 8ish.
8時ごろに会いましょう。
I’ll pick you up at 6:30ish.
6時半ごろに迎えに行くね。
■年齢 + ish
年齢に~ishをつけることで「～歳ぐらい」を表現することができる
A: How old do you think he is?
B: Hmmm, I guess he is 20ish.
He is 30ish.
彼は30歳くらいです。
I think She is 45ish.
彼女は45歳くらいじゃない。
■色 + ish
特に色ははっきりした答えが難しいのでこのような曖昧な表現が便利に使える
A: I think I am close. Which color is your house?
B: Bluish.
A: Do you remember what the man looked like?
B: I remember he was wearing a greyish T-shirt.
His eyes are lind of a green-ish color.
彼の眼は緑っぽい色です。
My friend drives a reddish car.
友達は赤っぽい車を運転している。
The sunset is a beautiful purplish color.
今日の夕焼けは紫っぽい綺麗な色だ。
■人 + ish
人の名前に~ishをつけると「～っぽい」という表現になる
A: I like your Harry potter-ish glasses.
B: Really? Thanks.
